Corn and the others, including
Orswald, started to search the crowd for those of whom they had desired to
dance with. One by one each of them had found whom they sought and joined the
rest of the dancers in the center, all except for Corn. He had another
intention – hopes to get a better look at who this captivating girl was.
He weaved through the outlining
crowd, which was now cheering the couples on. He made his way to the frontline
and scanned the sea of faces across the square where he spotted the guards
last. With squinted eyes he studied each person so as not to foolishly miss her
due to carelessness. Suddenly he noticed the guards making their way to the
frontline.
The first two guards stepped away from each
other opening the way for the girl. Corn’s eyes slowly widened as he watched
the girl emerge from the shadows of the towering men. The lanterns that hung
above played with her doll-like tan face. Her waist length brown hair consisted
of a variety of unique braids that swung almost hypnotically as she glided
forward. Above all it was not her hair, or even her fancy baby blue dress that
made him completely motionless, it was the pair of wide, bright, emerald eyes
that were looking right into his own.
